Outback FX and VFX Sine Inverter/Chargers (1.5kw - 30kw) Outback makes only pure sine wave inverter/chargers in sealed and vented configurations at around 1.5kw, 2kw and 3kw. Up to 10 Outback inverters can be stacked in parallel and three phase for power output as high as 30kw. The sealed units are great for corrosive or wet environments. The vented units are identical inside, but ventilation allows them to produce approximately 50% more power. The latest edition to the line is the 1500w Puma, with all the VFX functions, but at an attractive price point. Outback manufactures in the USA and is owned by former Trace Engineering staff.

Surrette/Rolls Flooded Deep Cycle Solar Batteries - For three generations, the Surrette family has been making great flooded batteries and we have been distributing them in Africa for eight years. These are true deep cycle batteries made in Canada, originally for the demands of the railroad and marine industry. Surrette has gradually shifted their solar batteries to the "Rolls" name, but many people still refer to them as Surrette batteries. They range in size from 100ah up to 3,000ah and are available flooded or bone dry. If ordering bone dry, we recommend a very robust, adjustable battery charger and considerable experience with commissioning batteries. These are serious batteries.

Learn More About Solar Water Pumping
Low Head, Low Flow Diaphragm Pumps - A diaphragm pump is a positive displacement pump appropriate for moving small amounts of water at low heads. It will pump at least some water even in low light conditions. SunPumps here in Arizona makes a bronze and stainless steel pump series with flow rates up to 14 litres per minute and depths of 70 meters. Shurflo also makes a diaphragm pump with a plastic case that can pump up to 7 litres per minute at 70 meters.

Medium Head, Medium Flow Helical Rotor Pumps - The Grundfos SQFlex is a fantastic pump with an integrated electrical drive that allows the use of AC or DC power from 30 volts to 300 volts. This is a positive displacement pump that works on the principle of Archimedes screw and can pump water at very low light levels. The same 1hp motor and drive are used in all SQFlex models with different pump ends to match the head and flow requirements. This is by far our fastest selling pump.

High Head, High Flow Pump Solutions - We are now proud to offer SunPumps drives that can run any three-phase, 380vac or 230vac motor directly from a solar array. These drives will operate pumps up to 75 horsepower anytime there is sufficient sunshine. With today's solar module pricing, solar water pumping has become very affordable. These pumps are made in Arizona by SunPumps, one of the world's best solar pumping companies. For a rough calculation of the necessary solar array, assume 1.2kW per motor horsepower or less.

Compact Fluorescent Street and Area Lights - Compact fluorescent bulbs can be very effective as area and street lights if they are fitted with high quality reflectors. We offer the Magnaray CFL lamp as a versatile outdoor lamp that can be used as an area light or a traditional street light. The W1PL36 uses a very efficient Iota ballast which draws 2.5 amps at 12v to power a 36w CFL lamp. Another advantage to CFL lights is that the replacement lamps (bulbs) are readily available almost everywhere.

LED Street and Area Lights - Most LED area and street lights on the market today are not well-designed and most suffer from problems with reliability. We have researched many and found one that we can believe in - this LED light engine is made by the same manufacturer who makes all Apple products and their quality is extraordinary. We order these with Nichia chips and a light dispersion pattern that is most favorable to medium height lamp poles. The light engine is IP65 (outdoor) rated and can be mounted in any manner that allows proper ventilation across the heat sink. We also offer fixtures for these light engines with the cobra head look.

Small Home Lighting - We offer low wattage 12vdc compact fluorescent lamps with either screw type or bayonet bases. These are ideal for DC lighting systems, normally used in small home or institutional systems. We do not currently offer solar lanterns.

Learn More About Solar Refrigeration
Sundanzer Chest Type Freezer or Refrigerator - Sundanzer has focused exclusively on the solar refrigeration business for many years and we love their products. The chest type 50 litre, 165 litre and 225 litre units are the best sellers, and the most efficient. We include free thermostats with the units so that you can switch them from freezer to refrigerator in the field. The units self-select between 12v and 24v and provide years of trouble-free service. We use a 165 litre fridge at our office in Arizona and run it easily with one 85w solar module.

Sundanzer Cabinet Type Refrigerator/Freezer Combo - This units is more convenient than the chest type, but is not as efficient (more cold air is lost when the door is opened). But it does include a freezer compartment and use the same compressor and thermostats as the chest type unit. A good choice for consumers who want the easy access of a cabinet type unit. Based on our tests in a 6 sun hour environment in Arizona, we recommend at least a 135w solar module, and probably a 175w module in most parts of Africa.

Sunfrost WHO Approved Solar Vaccine Refrigerator - If your customer requires a World Health Organization (WHO) approved vaccine refrigeration system, then you will need to use this Sunfrost RVFB. Remember that the entire system should be installed per WHO specifications in order to meet the standard - the refrigerator is just one component and will not work well in a poorly designed or poorly installed system. The Sunfrost RFVB is similar to the Sundanzer DCR134 and uses the same compressor and gas.

Learn more about wind turbines
SouthWest Wind Air X and Air Breeze - These are the favorite small battery-charging turbines from SouthWest Wind. Both the Air X and the Air Breeze look identical, but the Air Breeze is intended for use in gusty areas where the wind speed varies erratically. Rather than braking to a stop in high wind bursts, the Air Breeze regulates a consistently low speed. Consequently, the Air Breeze's maximum power is lower, but the total delivered power over time might be more in most locations. These are both very simple to install, with built-in charge controllers and two simple leads to connect to the battery breaker.

SouthWest Wind Whisper Turbines - These are the largest battery charging turbines manufactured by SouthWest Wind. The Whisper 100 is best for high wind speed areas and the Whisper 200 has the lowest start-up speed (and is the best choice for almost all of Africa). The larger Whisper 500 is heavier and harder to install and is not available in marine version.
